Sidcup Symphony Orchestra performs throughout the year at its beautiful South East London concert venue, the Victorian St John the Evangelist Church, in Sidcup. Founded in 1961, SSO has performed in central London at St John's Smith Square and toured internationally to Germany and The Netherlands. It has a close partnership with Bird College of Dance, Music and Theatre Performance, with whose music and dance students it collaborates.
SSO offers South East London audiences the opportunity to experience high-quality live orchestral music, old and new. We play both famous 'standard repertoire' and music you will be unlikely to hear anywhere else. We also play a New Year's Concert where we mix adventurous repertoire which we know our audience will love, with traditional Viennese music and 'pops' works including famous film, television and radio scores.
SSO's musicians are drawn from all over London and beyond. Many members are professionally trained and teach locally, others are serious amateurs; all are committed to rigorous rehearsal preparation and making inspired performances. The Orchestra offers a wide range of challenging programmes and repertoire from numerous composers and styles during every concert season. In 2017 SSO gave its first performance at Bexley's historic Hall Place, and in 2019 performed at Rochester Cathedral for the first time.
