Annette Wightman (Oboe and Cor Anglais) Annette’s early musical activity, playing the oboe, included being a member of Bexley Music School and becoming a Junior Exhibitioner at The Royal College of Music as well as becoming a member of Sidcup Symphony Orchestra. Full time studies were at Trinity College of Music where Annette studied under Tamara Coates, becoming a Licentiate and Fellow of the college. After a few years of teaching and playing, a significant career change took place for Annette in her mid twenties when she joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1985. Annette has served mainly in south London throughout her police service, including Lambeth, Bexley and most recently Lewisham. She was Staff Officer to the then Commander Carole Howlett, now Chief Constable of Norfolk. Annette is now a Superintendent and works within the Diversity and Citizen Focus Directorate. She has specific responsibility for the Family Liaison and Critical Incident Advisory Teams. Recently, Annette was the police lead for the 7th July Family Assistance Centre, which provided support to those affected by the bombings. This was the first centre of its kind to be established in Europe, an achievement of which she is extremely proud. Annette is Chair of the SSO committee and considers Thursday night SSO rehearsals as an oasis within a very busy working life.
