Sue Hook (Second Violin) Sue originally trained to become a teacher, but she ended up working for Midland Bank which is where she met her husband Alan. They have two children and after bringing them up and gaining a little more time for herself she decided to work on a voluntary basis as the local Mencap Membership Secretary. Sue started to play the violin at age 12 at her local school. She took much inspiration for practising this difficult instrument from her uncle who also used to play the violin. Sue became so keen in playing that she was a member of four youth orchestras all at the same time, including Surrey Youth and Hounslow Youth where she also played with a young Monica Huggett and Roger Chase. Sue joined the SSO in 1998 and enjoys playing with us very much as in her own words “it is the friendliest orchestra I have ever played with.” Her favourite music includes composers such as Sibelius and Mozart, but she also enjoys other music such as folk and rock-gospel. Her son Richard, who is also musical, plays saxophone and keyboard in various jazz groups. Among her non-musical interests Sue includes watching sport, particularly athletics, travelling abroad, bird-watching and photography. (Updated 12.12.05)
