Anne Dawe (Second Violin) Anne started playing the violin at the age of nine. She had lessons at school which cost the princely sum of 6d. Her mother was also musical and attended the Italia Conti Stage School as a child. Anne went to Avery Hill College in Eltham where she took an Infants/Nursery course, taking music as the main subject. There she sang in the choir and played in the orchestra. As special strings to her bow, Anne can say that she has played with the London Hospitals Orchestra under the direction of Colin Davis (now Sir Colin), the London Junior Orchestra in the Festival Hall and she has even played in the Albert Hall in the 1950s on several occasions. As a retired Infants Teacher Anne can devote much of her time to making music. Apart from playing with the SSO, she also sings in a group known as the Magpies, performing mostly charity concerts. When Anne is not involved with music, she attends meetings of her local Neighbourhood Watch, enjoys walking, gardening and bird watching or spends time with her cats and dogs.
