Wolfgang Altenau (Second Violin) Wolfgang started to play the violin a the age of 30 and subsequently managed to take the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams for the instrument up to Grade 7. After a gap of 10 years he started to have lessons again and hasn’t looked back since. Wolfgang worked for 17 years for Lloyd’s Underwriters in the City of London, but for health reasons had to leave in 1998. Since then he has done different jobs, but has now settled into working at a school as Clerk to the Governing Body and also as teaching assistant. Whilst Wolfgang was at Lloyd’s he was a member of the Lloyd’s Choir, but now spends most of his spare music-making time on the fiddle. He joined the SSO about three years ago and also plays with the Marlowe String Ensemble and other informal groups. He has been married to Janet for 30 years. Non-musical interests include a fascination for languages, walking and travelling to faraway places. His favourite composer is Beethoven and consequently the SSO concert Wolfgang enjoyed most was when he could take part in playing Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. (Updated 12.12.05)
