Minat Lyons
Minat was born in Jerusalem, but has grown up in London, where
she began
studying the cello at the age of three. She rejected her offer of a
place to read
Classics at Cambridge University in order to study with Alexander Boyarsky at the
Royal College of Music, where she holds a prestigious Foundation
Scholarship.
Minat has performed extensively both here and abroad, across Europe and in the
United States. Her recent solo activities have included winning the 5th Antonio Janigro International Violoncello Competition, held in Croatia last October, and
making a special guest appearance at Wigmore Hall this July.
In February 2005 , Minat was selected to play for Bernard Greenhouse at Wigmore
Hall,
in a masterclass that was recorded for DVD release. She has also played
for Natalia Gutman, Lluis Claret,
and last year was chosen for a masterclass
with Thomas Demenga at the the RNCM Manchester International Cello Festival. In
November 2005 she performed the Samuel Barber cello concerto in a thrilling
concert with the Sidcup
Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her solo work, Minat is a committed chamber musician. She
has recently been invited to
perform with the Bochmann and Sacconi String
Quartets, and performs regularly with her own clarinet
trio, Trio Orfeo.
