Ben Stevens

Ben Stevens started the cello at the age of nine when his parents bought him a second hand cello for Christmas. He studied with Helen Corkhill and completed Grades 3, 5 and 7 gaining a place at the Purcell School of Music with a GAP Scholarship. He studied with Pal Banda and Michal Kaznowski and became principal cello of the Bedfordshire County Youth Orchestra, the Purcell School Chamber and Symphony Orchestras.

In 2002, Ben continued his studies with Alexander Boyarsky at the Royal College of Music where he received his BMus (Hons) in 2006. He played in many concerts during his four years at the RCM including Prokofiev's Sinfonia in Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of the NAYO Festival in the summer of 2003, and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 with Bedford Sinfonia conducted by Sir Michael Rose in May 2004.

Most recently Ben played the Elgar Cello Concerto with the London Medical Orchestra on 25th March 2007 and is currently working on a Postgraduate Diploma in performance as a Sir John Ackroyd Scholar at the RCM.

Ben's cello was made in 2001 by William Castle.
