Sidcup Symphony Orchestra (SSO), one of the longest established orchestras in the South-East, today announced that its next concert will feature acclaimed violinist Geoffrey Lynn as its guest soloist. Geoffrey, who is part of the London Philharmonic Orchestra first violin section, will play Dvořák’s Violin Concerto with SSO on Sunday 22 May at St. John’s Church, Sidcup. Geoffrey is also a chamber music player and his performances include Radio 3 broadcasts. In 1970 he began studies with Frances Mason at the Royal College of Music, winning the Stoutzker Prize, which is their top violin award. Later in his career he spent four years studying with inspirational violin professor David Takeno, who was the winner of this year’s Association of British Orchestras (ABO) Award announced in February. Geoffrey became a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1974.
SSO Music Director James Ross said, ‘This is a wonderful opportunity for music lovers to hear one of the UK’s most accomplished violinists play in their local community. We feel honoured that Geoffrey has agreed to be a part of our programme and it is a testimony to the calibre of the musicianship within our orchestra.”
